Weekend Update

Here's where we didn't spend any time this weekend, though Saturday and Sunday turned out to be lovely days...Will have to remedy that in forthcoming weekends.  We have just about gotten a handle on the yardwork, so I've promised myself some teatime and wine time on the deck in July!!

The full moon has been out in all its glory the last few nights.  This is from Friday night ~ I love the rich blues of the night sky!

This was the Moon over Vashon last night.  Was watching tv and happened to glance out the window JUST as it was peeking over the island, so grabbed the camera and caught this....awesome!

DH spent his weekend working his ongoing mission to free up the South Border Bed wacking out blackberry brambles, pulling up ivy and pruning the rhody trees - which have very lovely and interesting trunks ~ who knew!  He also discovered at the very edge of the bank a white hydrangea that had been struggling to keep going, practically strangled with ivy.  He'll prune it back and hopefully next spring it will reward us with a showy display of blooms.  I think all this pruning is deeply appreciated by the plants, but not sure the neighbors are loving it!  We've kept as much of a canopy effect as possible so we're not peering into each other's backyards.  I think it will be fine.

While weeding and clearing beds yesterday, I discovered the roses are blooming, so grabbed the camera and caught some of them, and their fellow blossoming buddies, at their showiest...

Got some socializing in this weekend, as well as yard work, and we continue to prep for summer when it eventually arrives...broke out the cotton sheets, all the flannel washed and tucked away for the season...broke in the new Cuisinart ice cream maker with a batch of Pomegranate-Blueberry sorbet, which was delish...brewed up sun tea, as there was actually enough sun to do so...drove to Sequim to have lunch with a longtime friend...had to reschedule Sunday's girlfriend plans with Sheri, as she was given temporary custody of her first grandchild Sophie, born Tuesday, June 22...babymama Rachel has some challenges to overcome, and CPS has dictated that she will have to earn parenting privileges before she can take full care of her daughter.  So, while Sheri and I will eventually get together for pedicures and a gab-session, rescheduling opened up Sunday for a day in the yard, housekeeping that was getting a little behind, and at the end of the day, firing up the grill for chicken, adobo seasoned veggies and coleslaw...summer, we are ready for you!!  Anytime now, you can bring the warm!!

Saturday night highlight:  DH and I had just settled in for watching the Best Western Ever Made on AMC, celebrating it's 50th Anniversary (The Magnificent Seven), when the doorbell rang...it was Sgt. Bergeron from Kitsap County Sheriff's Dept.  Happily, his appearance on our doorstep wasn't alarming.  As previously documented, our neighborhood has been having some trouble with the miscreant youths who "use and abuse" our beach, and we have partnered with KCSD to assist with managing the mayhem.  He had been directed to me as the "one in the know", so we invited him in and had a nice chat about the situation.  Our poor Sheriff's dept is woefully and inadequately staffed, with a mere 4 guys to cover the entirety of South Kitsap, so running kids off a beach isn't always a top priority.  At any rate, he was quite agreeable and pleasant, and now he, too, is "in the know" about the dynamic we contend with in the 'hood.

In closing, here's a different angle on the ferry shots - stood in a different part of the yard to catch this one heading to Vashon from Southworth.

And so ends the weekend, and begins the last few days of June.  Hoping July will turn summer on full blast!  Ready for some warm, just not the soggy kind :)
