Ferries

These two pix deserve their own post :)

This is the Bremerton/Bainbridge Ferry coming into dock in Seattle the other evening - those are the Olympic Mountains in the background.

And this shot is of "Bill" (as we've dubbed him), half of a mating pair of geese on the Vashon Dock.  My friend and fellow commuter Brenda S. took this on her blackberry last night!  Bill's "wife", "Susan", was hunkered down a little further up the dock -- Bill was standing guard, hissing at commuters off-loading from the Seattle Water Taxi onto Vashon last night, advising us when we were too close for comfort!  Susan applauded his efforts quietly from afar.  She is a very supportive spouse.  We are hoping they have a successful nesting resulting in many adorable goslings :)

There was drama a week or so ago, when a third goose, dubbed "Frank", was hanging around, apparently vying for Susan's attention.  We surmise after being rebuffed enough times (we'd see him floating forlornly at a safe distance gazing longingly at Susan, who was clearly entranced with Bill), he flew to warmer waters in search of a mate.  We are a creative bunch, we ferry commuters...with waaayyyy too much time on our hands.

The ferry behind Bill is coming in from West Seattle, which we Southworthers hop on to take us the rest of the way home, a mere 10 minute crossing from Vashon to Southworth Dock.
