Never have we all been so happy to reach dry land...
Here's the story:
The 4:30 Seattle to Vashon run was pretty bouncy, but Capt. Tara had decided to attempt the 5:30pm run anyway - she advised us to use the bathroom prior to rounding Alki, cuz after that, mandatory butts in seats. We rounded Alki, and it went from bad to worse in a nanosecond. We were in high winds with sustained swells of 6+ feet that kept slamming the boat - then the wind changed and we nearly became a submarine - twice. Even the veteran commuters were looking pretty rough.
After the second wave TOPPED the second level of the boat, Tara turned back, about 2/3 of the way across. She stopped at the W. Seattle Water Taxi dock to give us the option to be close to Fauntleroy, and 78 of 106 passengers disembarked. Taxis and shuttles eventually got all of us to the dock - friend Jeff hired us an Orange Cab Van, and 6 of us piled in and made it to Fauntleroy around 6:45. Caught the 7:35 WSF home. I must say, the galley was quite festive with all us survivors gathered together celebrating NOT ending up in Davy Jones' Locker last night!! I walked in the door around 8:30, and slept like crap, as my stomach wouldn't stop spinning, and neither would my head...
Never again will any of us question when the Captain cancels a run due to foul weather!
BTW, this had nothing to do with Japan - this was just nasty Puget Sound Wind and Waves...
