January is definitely winding things up mildly...here is my lovely Kafir Lily, brightening up the backyard on a soft blue afternoon last Saturday...
...the Kalanchoe from my friend Denise is still blooming and brightening up the kitchen with a happy gentle orange...
We're all still feeling fairly lazy as the bleak mid-winter continues to progress and wane...Ms. Angel was awake long enough to allow me this adorable snapshot :)
This was how the morning greeted me yesterday...stunning!
That's my ferry, pulling away from Vashon heading to our dock to haul our keisters to work...
In other news, we finally got rid of the brick pile remains of the chimney last Saturday...two last runs to the cement, etc. recycling place, then some assertive sweeping, and all that's left is for Darnell to haul away the rusty former fireplace innards and his plywood. Then we'll eventually pressure wash, and then paint the siding. But that will wait until warmer days in May or June.
At the end of the spring blossoming season every year, I clean up the pots, leaving the bulbs within, and tuck them in a dark corner of the side yard - out of sight, out of mind - and I'm always delighted to stumble upon them every January, industriously poking their little noggins up out of the soil :) Winter won't win, they seem to tell me...and I believe them!
